Book Bat, Norwich has always made room for the unfamiliar.

In the 16th century, Dutch and Flemish refugees came to Norfolk seeking safety from religious persecution. They brought with them new weaving and dyeing skills, colours and ideas that became woven into the city itself.

Norwich called them The Strangers.

This collection takes its name from that history — a small tribute to new arrivals, new influences and the way unfamiliar things can become part of the fabric of a place.

A little ray of darkness from the city of stories. Norwich the UNESCO city of literature, inspiring and birthing authors, writers, storytellers throughout the ages… And the home of the Norwich Book Bat. She can be found haunting libraries, bookshops or any dusty book shelf.

Colour: Embers

Talisman: courage, renewal and a little spark when spirits are running low.

9.5cm tall

Each one is individually hand-cast and finished as part of this small batch.

The Book Bat you receive will be similar to those shown in the group photograph. While they share the same form and finish, subtle differences in tone, markings, and character make every piece slightly unique.

Each order is selected at random when packed. You won’t be able to choose a specific Book Bat — part of the pleasure is not knowing exactly which one will make its way to you.
